Simply Clean: A Devotional Thought

How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God! Hebrews 9:14 NIV

When my husband and I were discussing the direction our goat ranching enterprise would go in, I began to think about making soap. I’ve made cold-process soaps in the past. I like being a bit of a chemist in the kitchen as I watch the chemical reactions occur during the process. I looked forward to the idea of making goat’s milk soap.

After filling up all the free storage space in our house with soap, I’ve learned a few things, the most important is this: Goat’s milk soap is one of the strongest cleaners and softest on the skin. Frankly, it’s the best! Added to homemade laundry soap, it is gentle on my quilts, making them soft and cuddly, but also tough on some of the stains my quilts acquire.

As awesome as goat’s milk soap is… the cleansing power of Jesus’ blood is even better. The stain of sin is everywhere and it’s darker and deeper than the worst coffee stain. But through Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross, we are cleansed from the stain of sin that leads to death.

Not only are we now free from sin, but we are gently led to live a life that shines God’s glory and goodness throughout the world. There is no soap on Earth stronger or gentler than that!
