I've launched my quilt designer career with this cute and easy baby quilt pattern. You can find it for sale here. While my initial quilt is beautiful and features some of my favorite flowers for the raw-edge appliquè, I wanted to wait to "officially" announce the pattern after I have finished the alternate color quilt. It's just wonderful!

The Initial Pattern Development

My initial quilt is just darling! The dark brown border frames a cute pinwheel tree that hosts little appliqué birds and butterflies and provides shade for a happy garden of flowers. My favorite part of making this quilt was choosing and applying the appliqué pieces. I also enjoyed (and was happily surprised) piecing the pinwheel blocks. I used the technique of making the block slightly bigger than needed and trimming to size. This easily produced precise blocks that went together like a dream. The top was finished in about two days (cutting in one evening, piecing in one afternoon).

I wanted to make another quilt to ensure I had the fabric requirements and directions correct so I began another quilt, and love the results even more!

Second Time The Charm

On my second iteration, I chose light greens and light grays, accented with blue and red birds and pink and blue flowers. The result is... Well, I just LOVE this one!I used AccuQuilt templates to create the appliquè. I really loved how easy the AccuQuilt machine is to use and how quick it was to cut out all the pieces. Thank you Sandi and the Sewing Lab for introducing me to this handy machine!

A Quilt for Beginners

I developed this quilt for beginners in mind, although it does use some more advanced techniques. I feel that having a bit of challenge in a pattern is what adds the fun. The pinwheel blocks and the appliquè are techniques that will be used in many other quilt patterns. The size of this quilt is perfect to give you the satisfaction of accomplishment quickly so that you can have finished quilt under your belt in no time! It's also a wonderful gift that goes together quick and looks beautiful. Buy the pattern here.
