A Quilter's Anticipation: An Advent Devotional Thought

But as for me, I watch in hope for the LORD, I wait for God my Savior; my God will hear me. Micah 7:7 NIV

At the moment I am between projects. I spent the last two months working hard on several projects and know I should take a small break... but I'm a quilter! I was thinking about my next quilt as I was finishing the previous one. I am filled with so much anticipation at this moment that I can hardly sit down and type. I want to start cutting and piecing. I'm ready to go!

Let me cut to the point really quickly here... We should have that much excitement and anticipation for our Lord. We should be so excited to tell others about Jesus and our eternal hope that we can't stay seated. We should.... I admit it... Sometimes I'm not. I have more excitement about starting a new project than going to church or writing these devotional thoughts.

As we approach Christmas, the church celebrates a time call Advent where we focus our hearts on anticipation of the celebration of the birth of Christ and the ultimate fulfillment of God's promise to live eternally with Him. This Advent season, I invite you to come on a journey with me and explore our faithful anticipation of God's plan coming to fruition.

But first... let's spend some time examining our hearts. As I began writing this, I didn't realize it would become so deep and personal. I thought, "I look forward to making quilts so much... that's just like how we should look forward to Christ's coming. Perfect." Then I started typing, and that was an awakening of my own heart. God is working in me, just as he is working in you. So... today, as you read this... take a moment and examine your own heart. Think of the times when you haven't been excited for Christ. Bask for a moment in God's grace. He forgives you. Through Jesus's death on the cross and resurrection from the dead we have the hope of eternal life and this is the source of our excitement and anticipation.

To be continued...
